Why Ya Gotta Be Such Haters?

July 23, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I’ve tried to look at this objectively, but it seems to me that the left (-aka- liberal -aka- “progressive” -aka- Democtratic) wing of American politics is dominated by one primary motivation: HATE.

I think it’s pretty ironic that the political party that portrays itself as one of inclusion and openness can be so hateful and deriding when it confronts another human being with a differing viewpoint on politics. And, what more is politics than a formal structure to describe how we should all get along?

Even many moderate Democrats seem incapable of civility when political debate begins. And this goes against all stereotypes of how we’ve been taught to view the two sides of the political spectrum. The stereotype of the conservative is one of a stuffy, uptight, anal-retentive who can’t tolerate people having any fun. The stereotype of the liberal is one of a loving, blissful flower-child with a “chill out, bro” attitude and the ability to laugh off anything that doesn’t fit their lifestyle.

But, the total opposite is the reality. Just spend a few minutes browsing through The Daily Kos if you have any doubts.

Now, don’t misunderstand me. There are PLENTY of uptight, hateful folks on the conservative side of the fence. But, overall conservatives are much more open to intelligent debate on issues and on getting to solutions to problems instead of directing hate toward their opponents.

The despicable things said by the left about Tony Snow following his death is only the most recent example. Can you imagine a conservative person spewing such filth about Tim Russert? Mr. Russert, by the way, was the only political commentator I actually enjoyed watching.

Come on, Democrats. Start living up to your stereotype a little bit.
